Don't Reward Yourself With Food

Don't Reward Yourself with Food

I was thinking about this as I was told someone is bringing me food. One of the worst possible things you can do is associate reward and joyfulness with food. I mean to say if your trying to lose weight from fat, it is not a good idea to relate feeling excited with eating. The reason is because most food you can't wait to eat is generally not the best for you. Additionally, it makes you crave more food just so you can feel that reward.

Since you have to eat in order to stay alive, try to make your motivation to eat that of a survival one. Tell your mind that you only are eating what your body needs nutritionally. Get a high from knowing that eating food is going to supply your body with nutrients to grow and survive. Remove all feelings of how good its flavors taste. Just think about trying to survive.

Most people in other countries love food because they know they're not going to go hungry when they see it. In wealthier countries, people see food as a way to feel good, survive, and meet a gap in their life. By simplifying the way you feel about eating, it becomes much easier to lose fat.

This problem is much like the one humans have with shark attacks.  Here is where nature comes into play. When people start feeding sharks or fishing for them with large bait, the sharks associate a feeling of "food" with that spot. The sharks may look for food there in the future. Once this predator has been triggered to think "if I go here, there is supposed to be food" humans may start getting attacked. Once one gets attacked, the shark either decides that this is a good source of food and stays for more people, or leaves.

How does this relate to over eating and obesity?

It relates by the simple human nature of people associating types of food with places. When you go out to eat, your not going to order the healthiest meal there. You socialize yourself and get into a mindset that says "going out to eat at this place feels good" and eating lots of fatty, sugary, and unhealthy food is comfortable here. Overall, the feeling of good tastes and flavors along with the reward of getting it, makes people crave fast food or restaurant food all the time. It doesn't have to be a bad thing if you know how to manage it. Just take a look at the entire menu and find healthy foods to eat instead of your favorite 2000 calorie fat meal.

Training yourself to not feel joy when you eat is hard, but in the end it makes weight loss 100 times easier. Sometimes, it might be impossible and you may need an appetite suppressant to reduce your cravings.

Another good way to help yourself with this problem is by finding other means of rewarding yourself. Find things that make you feel fulfilled and happy. Focus on doing these things so that food isn't the safety net when your bored or unhappy. By having a good network of activities and strategies to help yourself feel good, food becomes much less of a pull on you. Participating in high intensity activities will especially make you only want food because you need to rebuild muscles and tissue. When you are at this level of being, healthy food becomes a necessity rather than a want. You will feel good knowing the reason why your eating protein or carbohydrates is because muscle has to be rebuilt and you need energy to do your workout.
